چکیده

Abstract Introduction Conventional sleep macro-architecture measures of disruption have not been associated with the adverse neurocognitive sequelae disordered breathing (SDB). Sleep spindles protecting sleeping brain from external sensory stimuli and can serve as markers integrity. We investigated relationship between fragmentation neurocognition across spectrum SDB in children. Methods Children 3-12y referred for clinical assessment age matched control children community were recruited. identified manually during N2 N3 sleep. Spindle activity was characterised spindle number, density (number spindles/ h) intensity (spindle x average duration). The Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scales measured global intellectual ability NeuroPSYchological (NEPSY-II) language, attention, visuospatial sensorimotor skills. Results grouped into control, Primary Snoring, Mild OSA Moderate/severe OSA, N=10/ group. All lower groups compared to Control this reached statistical significance (p<0.05 all). correlated any measure Stanford-Binet. Overall, all positively Design Copy Inhibition Naming combined scale score negatively Auditory Attention subscales NEPSY-II. Conclusion reduced observed SDB, particularly indicates that micro-architecture is disrupted may underpin negative effects on learning memory.

Sleep-disordered breathing in children.

The first series of children with obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome was reported in 1976. Later it became apparent that children may have breathing disorders during sleep without frank apnoea or 'hypopnoeas'. This pattern could be detected by measuring the oesophageal pressure. This led to the concept of sleep-disordered breathing as a spectrum that combines obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome an...

Sleep-disordered breathing in children.

Children with sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) can manifest a continuum from simple snoring and upper airway resistance syndrome to obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) with secondary growth impairment, neurocognitive deficits, and less often cardiovascular sequelae. Most children who present with SDB are four to eight years old with variable clinical symptoms at different ages. In general, infants of...

Behavior, neurocognition and quality-of-life in children with sleep-disordered breathing.

OBJECTIVES To summarize current evidence that sleep-disordered breathing in children is associated with behavioral, neurocognitive and quality-of-life problems and to suggest new lines of investigation for future research on sleep-disordered breathing and behavior. METHODS A comprehensive review of the medical literature between January 1990 and December 2004 was performed using the National ...

the effects of changing roughness on the flow structure in the bends

flow in natural river bends is a complex and turbulent phenomenon which affects the scour and sedimentations and causes an irregular bed topography on the bed. for the reason, the flow hydralics and the parameters which affect the flow to be studied and understand. in this study the effect of bed and wall roughness using the software fluent discussed in a sharp 90-degree flume bend with 40.3cm ...

Relationship Between Arrhythmia and Sleep Disordered Breathing.

The association between obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and cardiovascular disease is well known. Data from most studies investigating the prevalence of OSA in atrial fibrillation (AF), and of AF in patients with OSA, have supported the relationship between these common diseases. In addition, several studies have shown a detrimental effect of OSA on AF treatment. These reports vary considerably i...
